The storm on the nineteenth put four inches of water through the alley door and across the basement floor. The boiler sits on a plinth and was never in it. The washing machine was, and has been replaced.
We had the drain outside re-cut and a check valve fitted, which is the fix the plumber said would matter and the one the last owner did not do. The basement is still a basement: we would not leave a suitcase on that floor.
